UAB Sports Research Institute of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (IRE-UAB) was created in January 2020 as a UAB institute with an interdisciplinary nature that brings together, coordinates and potentiates ongoing and new sport-related research lines, educational programmes and knowledge transfer activities. It is based on the rich UAB historical capital in sport-related academic activities and university services for more than 30 years. Its mission is to contribute to the creation of a healthy, cohesive and sustainable society in a global and changing context and respond to the needs of our economic and social environment, through interdisciplinary research in sport, knowledge transfer and the training of professionals. IRE-UAB gathers 41 academic staff from 15 UAB Departments, more than 20 trainee research, research support staff and project collaborators, and a strong local and international network of institutional academic relations. IRE-UAB carries out research in 11 specific areas based on interdisciplinarity and social relevance. Research lines range from physical activity to communication, high performance, education in sports values, sport management and law, sustainability, history or data engineering.
