The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women stipulate in various articles equal rights for all members of society to participate in all activities including education, and to become engaged in policy development including taking over leadership positions. Physical education, physical activity and sport offer compelling settings for promoting gender equality and empowerment, and for challenging structural injustices that limit the life chances of girls and women. The variety of levels at which girls and women can engage in these activities include participation, coaching, teaching, management, and leadership.
