Sports Participation Spotlighted by COVID-19

The German Federal Institute of Sport Science – Bundesinstitut für Sportwissenschaft (BISp) has published the report Sports Participation and Sports Consumption Spotlighted by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Sports-related spending by private households and the nature and extent of the population's sports behaviour are of central importance for the economic factor of sports. Against the backdrop of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the sports industry is also facing special challenges.

The report presents the results of the representative population survey conducted as part of the Sports Satellite Account. They show what changes have occurred in sports behaviour in 2020, and what impact this has had on private sports consumption. The report focuses on "adult" individuals aged 16 and older.
