The Football Association (FA), United Kingdom, has created a new approach to remedy bad behaviour from fans and players by launching its own football club called Respect FC.

Aim of the Respect programme is to create a safe and enjoyable environment for the game. Concern about abuse towards referees and poor sideline behaviour was the key driver behind the development of a website and programme whereby fans can join Respect FC.

For every person that joins, FA has pledged to put £1 back into the Respect initiative within grassroots football, up to the value of £50,000.

Latest research from the FA has shown that 40% of players, coaches and referees think Respect has improved their experience of the game.
