MINEPS V: Meeting of the African Regional Working Group of Experts

In lead-up to MINEPS V African experts discussed aspects of investing into physical education and sport. Aimed at familiarising Nigerian and African experts with the conference and its working processes, the meeting took place from 5-6 March 2013 in Abuja, Nigeria. Specifically the participants discussed the region's contribution to the production of a final declaration and respective recommendations under consideration of current regional developments surrounding the MINEPS V topics. Bringing together Nigeria's Minister of Sport, H.E. Mal Bolaji Abdullahi, who opened the gathering, Mr. Arnaldo Fuxa, President of CIGEPS, Joel Matias Libombo, Vice-President of CIGEPS for Africa, representatives from sport and physical including educators, administrators and researchers from Benin, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, The Supreme Council for Sport of Africa, experts from the United Kingdom, ICSSPE and UNESCO, as well as high level representatives of Nigerian sport and Physical Education administration and academia, the meeting focused on the second key theme "Promoting Investment in Sport and Physical Education Programmes". Jennifer Wong, Project Manager at ICSSPE, commented on the outcome as follows: "The National Sport Commission of Nigeria were very welcoming and gracious hosts, and through their hard work we were able to have this expert discussion between African policy makers, researchers and educators. I was very impressed with the thorough preparation and am looking forward to a strong representation from Africa at MINEPS V."
