John Coghlan Has Passed Away

Former ICSSPE Vice-President and Long-term Secretary-General

The International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education is deeply saddened to announce that its former Vice-President and Secretary General, John Coghlan, passed away on 1st June, 2016.

 

John Coghlan was elected as Vice-President in 1982. Prior to this, he was Secretary General from 1976 until 1982.

 

Gudrun Doll-Tepper, ICSSPE President from 1997 until 2008 commented: “We at ICSSPE have very fond memories of John and we are very sad about his passing. He has impacted the work and the development of ICSSPE over many years in an outstanding manner. Since my involvement in ICSSPE as a member of the Executive Board in 1990 and then in 1997 as President I experienced John Coghlan’s strategic knowledge and advice as well as his remarkable diplomatic competencies.

 

Acting President Uri Schaefer, added: “We are most thankful for his great contribution to ICSSPE in so many various functions, in particular, as Secretary General with Sir Roger Bannister as President, as Chairperson of the Editorial Board and as an Honorary Member.”
