ICSSPE Honorary President Gudrun Doll-Tepper Turned 75
On 5th October 2022 ICSSPE Honorary President Professor Gudrun Doll-Tepper turned 75.
Gudrun Doll-Tepper was elected as ICSSPE President at the 1996 General Assembly and was the first woman to hold this position. Following her election, she set up the Executive Office in Berlin and moved the legal seat to Germany’s capital as well. With the foundation of the Associations’ Board, a predecessor of the current Development Committee, ICSSPE focused its work on the domains of Science, Service and Advocacy.
Gudrun Doll-Tepper’s presidency was characterised by a tremendous growth of the organisation. Her unique leadership skills, her participatory approach, her advocacy for inclusive physical education and sport, her expertise and enthusiasm made many institutions and organisations attracted to this global umbrella organisation.
In 1999, ICSSPE held the first World Summit on Physical Education which maintains to be a reference event in global discussions on the state and status of physical education. The Pre-Olympic Congress 2004 in Thessaloniki took place under her leadership and, following negotiations with the IOC, IPC and FIMS, the 1st International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport in 2008 in Guangzhou. After a devastating tsunami had hit large parts of Asia, Gudrun Doll-Tepper used the International Year of Sport and Physical Education 2005, to develop an inclusive education programme for young professionals in the field of sport for development.
According to the statutes, Gudrun Doll-Tepper’s presidency ended in 2008 but members and partners continue to be grateful for the legacy which she left behind.
