From Gymnastics to Sports

Under the patronage of ICSSPE, the International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sport (ISHPES) Congress 2011 will take place from 8-12 August, 2011, in Frankfurt/Main, Germany.

Jointly organised with the German Gymnastics Conferderation (DTB), the congress is titled From Gymnastics to Sports - Relations, Interactions, Contradictions in the Past and the Present: A Congress on the Occasion of the Founding of the German Turner Movement in 1811.

Topics of the congress include:

• Establishment and development of Turner and gymnastics systems in various countries;
• Spread of sport and sportification processes;
• Political gymnastics and sports movements;
• Gender, age and ethnicitiy in Turnen, gymnastics and sports;
• History meets Sociology.

Abstracts are invited and must be submitted by 1 February, 2011.
