The University of Pitesti, Romania, has received a grant of the Lifelong Learning Programme/Leonardo da Vinci Programme of the European Union to start a two year programme on wellness training as part of spa services.

The aim of the research which is undertaken under the leadership of ICSSPE Executive Board member Luminita Georgescu, is to identify and reorganise physical therapy strategies and tourist services using electronic products. According to the research group, there is an increased therapeutic and social interest for spa treatments at health resorts that have led to international balneary tourism.

The project is based on EU statistics indicating significant symptomatologic improvements immediately following spa treatments.
