The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) will be holding their 60th anniversary banquet alongside the ´Disability Sport: A Vehicle for Social Change?´ conference. The conference will be held in Coventry, UK, from August 23rd to 25th, 2012 at the Coventry University´s Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies. 

 

Both researchers and applied practitioners will present and discuss key themes such as the following:

-Status of Canadian disability sport and physical education programmes
 
-Role of sport in rehabilitation particularly in developing countries
 
-Dealing with stigma towards disability especially in developing countries
 
-Development of an elite Para-Sport programme in Africa
 
-China´s role in the Paralympic movement
 
-Social inclusion
 
 
Keynote speakers include Tony Naar from the Australian Paralympic Committee and Anne Wafula-Strike, a Kenyan Paralympian, motivational speaker and author.
 
 
During the conference there is an opportunity for delegates to attend the Coventry Paralympic Flame Celebration prior to the start of the 2012 Paralympic Games.
