The XXIII Panathlon International Congress will take place from 4 to 7 June 2026 in Ghent, Belgium, marking the 75th anniversary of Panathlon International. The event will bring together international stakeholders to engage in discussions at the intersection of sport governance, ethics, and policy.
Recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Panathlon International promotes the cultural and ethical dimensions of sport through its global network. The Congress provides a platform for dialogue on contemporary challenges shaping sport systems and their societal role.
The scientific programme, taking place on 4 and 5 June, will focus on key themes including:
- Sport diplomacy, governance, and political frameworks
- Youth engagement and participation in decision-making processes
- Integrity in sport as a core value
- European perspectives on good governance in sport
Through a series of round table discussions, the Congress aims to facilitate exchange between researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, contributing to ongoing debates on how to strengthen governance structures and uphold ethical standards in sport.
In addition to the Congress, the event will host the 52nd General Assembly of Panathlon International and the Jacques Rogge Award ceremony, highlighting contributions to the promotion of sport values.
The Congress represents an opportunity for the international sport community to reflect on evidence-informed approaches to governance and ethics, and to foster collaboration across sectors.
