The Commonwealth Advisory Board on Sport (CABOS) - an independent body providing advice on sport policy issues and Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) - met for two days (13-14 June) at the Commonwealth Secretariat’s headquarters in London to discuss the use of sport to achieve education and health goals across the Commonwealth. Specifically discussed was a set of guidelines for Advancing Development through Sport, published through the Commonwealth Secretariat which are currently being used in countries including Barbados, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka to develop national SDP action plans.

CABOS, which was established in 2003, includes a diverse panel of 13 sport and development experts and senior sport officials, and will examine how the SDP field can move beyond advocacy and turn government policies on sports initiatives into action, specifically looking at the role for governments in framing SDP policies and supporting, monitoring and evaluating them.
