Science Award to Turkish Sport Scientist

Canan Koca, Executive Board Member of the International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW) has become the first sport scientist to receive the Young Scientists Award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA).

 

With this award TÜBA aims to foster outstanding scientists and to contribute to develop a new generation of competent researchers from all scientific disciplines. Koca was honoured in the field of Sports Sciences and Technology, specifically for her research on Gender in Sports and Social Class in Sports.

 

Tansin Benn, President of IAPESGW, sees the award as a ”hugh achievement” in Koca´s work “to forefront the situation of women and sport in Turkey in the wider international academic world.” Additionally, Benn explains that Koca “has been a major contributor to IAPESGW´s work” and states that the award “is a well-deserved reward for a very successful and promising early career.”
