Registration for the International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS) is now open and welcomed via the official convention website.

Delegates from across the 5 continents are invited to join the great range of sessions covering all sport and exercise related academic disciplines. This inter-disciplinarity will also give people the opportunity to “push their own thinking by attending sessions that they might not usually go to”, said Celia Brackenridge, Chair of the Local Organising Committee. “We all benefit from thinking ‘outside the box’ yet often meet the same colleagues over and over again at different conferences around the world”.

Greg Whyte, Chair of the ICSEMIS 2012 Scientific Committee, added that through the “vast array of world leading researchers and applied practitioners from across the sport and exercise field, presenters and delegates alike have a rare opportunity to show off their expertise to a world-wide audience”.

Keynotes of the convention will include the following topics:

  • The Olympic Health Legacy;
  • Sport and violence to children in sport;
  • Genetics and health performance;
  • Special medical issues in Paralympic athletes;
  • Policy dilemmas in sport and physical education;
  • Gender verification in sport;
  • Sports management;
  • Impact of sport for development;
  • Classification - conceptual models;
  • Biological passport of the athlete from the juridical point of view in doping control;
  • Cardio oncology: Exercise in the treatment of cancer;
  • Pedagogies for the 21st century teaching and coaching;
  • Citius altius fortius: If only it were that easy;
  • Conflicting ethics? – Medicine, science and elite sports in the 21st century;
  • Exercise is medicine: Realising the health benefits of physical activity;
  • “Exercise is medicine” – How the physician can prescribe physical activity for health.

Additionally to the opening of the registration for ICSEMIS, the Local Organising Committee informs that, in consequence of many requests to accept late submissions, the deadline for abstract submission for oral and poster presentations has been extended until 1 December, 2011.

The organisers are looking forward to shaping up “an exciting programme full of diverse, interesting research in sport, physical education, exercise, physical activity and sports medicine from all over the world”, says Whyte.

Abstracts may be submitted on the official sub-themes of the convention. More information on these sub-themes and the abstracts submission in general can be found here
