UNESCO General Conference Adopts Revised Charter
10/12/2015 14:55

The new Charter has its origin in a previous version which was adopted in 1978. The revision process goes back to recommendations from the last World Conference of Ministers of Sport (MINEPS V) followed by decisions of the UNESCO Executive Board and the Director General. Co- moderated by UNESCO and ICSSPE, the new version is the result of a one year discussion which involved UNESCO member states, members of the Permanent Consultative Council of CIGEPS as well as other sport and sport science bodies.

The new Charter was deemed necessary because of the manifold developments in society, science, sport and physical education. This includes the demand for equal participation opportunities to sport and physical education for all members of society, the growing need for physical activity and necessary steps to ensure that sportspersons act with integrity.
