For its journal Cultural Trends, the publishing house Routledge calls for papers dealing with the Cultural Olympiad.

Cultural Trends provides analysis of cultural sector statistics and focuses on key trends within the fields of material culture, media, performing arts and the historic environment. Contributions are invited for the special edition Establishing an evidence base for the Cultural Olympiad: London 2012.

The Cultural Olympiad is the cultural programme hosted in connection with the Olympic Games and aims to expand the creative impact and legacy of the Games.

This special edition of Cultural Trends endeavours to discuss the planning, delivery and impacts of a Cultural Olympiad. Methodological challenges and other issues associated with the organisation of London 2012, starting with the handover from Beijing in 2008, will be the main focus of the special edition. Analysis of evidence from previous Cultural Olympiads are also welcomed.

Specific themes to be considered include:

  • Framing the Cultural Olympiad as an object of study -- impact on methodologies for assessment and data collection priorities;
  • Discussion on specific areas of evidence / impact assessment (economic, social, environmental or cultural impacts);
  • Transferring knowledge: how to extract lessons from London Olympiad experience that can inform future Olympic hosts; - From London to Rio? How to make the most of lessons from previous Games?

Papers must be submitted by 27 January, 2012, to Sara Selwood at sarasaraselwood.co.uk
