London Legacy

Sustainable Games Venues
10/09/2012 09:01

The Olympic and Paralympic Games have recently come to a close and the London Legacy Development Corporation will begin to transform the Olympic Park into the 'Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park' for use by the community as well as elite sports teams.

The London Organising Committee aimed to hold the most sustainable Games in history by only building eight new venues that will be used as part of the legacy of the Games, while other venues were built semi-permanently and will be taken down or transformed. For example, the Aquatics Centre, Velodrome and Eton Manor have secure futures for use by the public, teams and the community, while temporary structures such as the shooting venue at 'The Royal Artillery Barracks', the basketball stadium and the modern pentathlon venue at Greenwich Park will be disassembled after the games.

The legacy of the London Games hopes to create a green, and community focused section of east London, complete with parks, transportation connections, energy, water and communication infrastructure, new housing and access to affordable sport and recreation venues.
