The Olympic Studies Center announced the launch of the 2024/2025 edition of the International Olympic Case Study Competition (CSC), which will be organised for the first time in two categories in collaboration with academic partners :
- CSC for Undergraduate Students, under the academic lead of the European University of Madrid (Carlos Garcia Martí and Jose Ramón Bonal Sánchez) ; and
- CSC for Master’s Students, under the academic lead of the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz (Holger Preuss)
The CSC consists of teams of students who compete against other teams, first within their own university class, and then against classes from other universities, with which they will be matched. They act as agencies advising an Olympic Movement organisation on topics related to current strategic management challenges in international sport.
For this year’s edition, the topic is “Growing an Olympic sport towards new participants and audiences”.
Why participate?
- University professors can use the case study in “regular” classes.
- Easy to manage: the competition offers clear and equal rules, a level playing field and takes place in a classroom setting.
- International experience: First rounds can be played in any language, and teams reaching the semi-finals and finals compete in English against other teams from all around the world.
- External assessment by experts: finalists are judged by an international panel of IOC/Olympic Movement representatives and professional and academic experts.
Registration deadlines and playing times:
- CSC for Undergraduate Students (A maximum of 16 university classes will be able to participate):
Deadline for registrations: 30 June 2024.
If places are still available after this date, a second opportunity to apply will be opened until 30 September 2024 (tbc).
Playing times: - Preliminary round runs from 15 August 2024 to 15 February 2025
- Round 2 (semi-finals) will be held from 1 September 2024 to 15 February 2025
- Round 3 (finals) will be held by the end of March 2025
- CSC for Master’s Students
There are 3 application deadlines depending on the preferred playing time:
- 1 May 2024, for classes willing to play the preliminary rounds between May and mid-July 2024
- 22 July 2024, for classes willing to play the preliminary rounds between beginning of September and end of November 2024
- 15 November 2024, for classes willing to play the preliminary rounds between beginning of December 2024 and mid-February 2025
