y 30 James Skinner received the 2014 Honour Award of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Skinner was awarded with ACSM’s highest presentation of excellence in light of his academic and scientific achievements in the fields of sports medicine and exercise sciences. He has been involved with ACSM since 1964 as an educator, academic and as a leader in the Exercise is Medicine Global Health Initiative. He served as ACSM President from 1979-1980, functioned as a key player in the development of the National Center in Indianapolis, and as Chair of the International Relations Committee. In his former roles as Vice President and Treasurer of ICSSPE, James provided an interface between his academic and educational efforts at the national and the global levels.
Tony Parker, who also served as Vice President of ICSSPE and worked together with Skinner, expressed his appreciation when saying “I am very fortunate to have interacted with Professor Skinner across numerous activities associated with the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education and the International Federation of Sports Medicine as well as events in Australia. I have enjoyed his great sense of humour and along with my Australian colleagues am most appreciative of his long standing contributions to sports medicine and exercise science in Australia.”
As semi-retired Professor Emeritus, Skinner is still active in research, consulting and lecturing, and he continues to be a Fellow in ACSM where he chairs the Exercise is Medicine Council on International Affairs.
