The International Working Group on Women and Sport has announced its renewable membership to the Permanent Consultative Council (PCC) of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS). Comprised of expert representatives in the field of physical education and sport from 18 UNESCO Member States, CIGEPS was established in 1978 to promote the role and value of sport and its inclusion in public policy. The PCC consists of key sport federations, UN agencies and NGOs, and provides technical support and advice to the Committee.

The IWG has commited itself to the global empowerment of women and the advancement of sport since 1994 and can now contribute to the work of the PCC and UNESCO's role in shaping public policy and governmental actions. The next meeting of the PCC is set to take place on 13 March 2013 in Baku (Azerbajan) in the course of which the members deal with possible policy outputs that may be generated through the 5th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS V).
