10/05/2022 17:13
The International Society for the History of Physical Education (ISHPES) and the Sport & University of Pitesti, Romania, have been announced as the first two recipients of the ICSSPE Biennial Working Programme Grants 2022/23.

The grants are to support the ICSSPE Biennial Working Programme (BWP) 2022/23 developed by the Development Comment. The main objective and overall topic of the Biennial Working Programme is to support Sustainability in and through sports, physical activity and physical education. It acknowledges ongoing activities on global and regional, as well as on governmental, non-governmental and inter-governmental levels for a sustainable development. Identified priority areas are Urbanisation, Demographic developments, Climate change, Resource pressure, and Green technology.

The International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sport (ISHPES) received the €10,000 grant for its project Cross-Cultural Approaches to Sustainable Development Goals and Greening Sport: A Transnational Study of Open-air Activities, Mountain Sports, and Traditional Game.

Based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the focus areas of the IOC Sustainability Strategy, issued in October 2017, this project focuses on open-air activities, mountain sports, and traditional games in the context of the SDGs. With particular emphasis on concepts of nature conservationism, environmental sustainability and greening sport, this project aims to exemplify the historical and socio-anthropological complexities of “sport and SDGs.”

In an effort to promote ICCSPE, and its members, to become global leaders in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), this project caters to the Working Programme’s “demographic development” priority area by enhancing our understanding of the sport-sustainability nexus. The project embraces a transnational approach, with case studies from four continents (North America, South America, Europe, and Asia), and an international team of scholars.

The University of Pitesti is another grant recipient, receiving €5000 for its project Development of Inclusive Education of Institutionalised Children Through Adapted Psychomotrics.

This educational project identifies and extrapolates the sustainability of psychomotor means in the field of institutionalised education, customised according to the needs and possibilities of children with special needs, aged 12-14 years. There will be a concordance between national and European strategic documents on one hand, with the ICSSPE strategy of sustainable development on the other through an integrated programme of physical activities. This will contribute to the social inclusion of children at institutions, through activities as part of non-formal education projected on an adapted psychomotor educational content.

The Biennial Working Programme grants are open to ICSSPE members and can be used for a project in line with ICSSPE’s Biennial Working Programme 2022/2023. Projects can be research activities, the collection or production of resources or content for education purposes, the development of new frameworks for policy development, etc. All results, research findings, resources, education material or policy recommendations may then be used by ICSSPE and its members for delivery and policy making in a variety of international contexts.

The funding period lasts from 1 April 2022 until 31 December 2023. The remaining grant funding will be advertised again with another submission deadline to be published over the next couple of weeks.
