Inclusivity in European Sports Clubs

DITEAM12 – New Report
06/05/2021 16:58

How well are sports clubs in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia and Spain equipped to include athletes with disabilities into their training?

The Erasmus+ research project DITEAM12 (Diverse and Inclusive Teams for Children under 12) has published a report on the current state of inclusion in sport clubs in the above mentioned countries.

These are some finding from the report:

  • The majority of clubs in Germany and Spain, who participated in the survey, lack specialised coaches for athletes with disabilities
  • In Slovenia, on the other hand, each club has at least one coach with those skills
  • Knowledge about specific coach education to train athletes with disabilities differs from country to country – 94% of surveyed coaches in Germany are aware of a course in their region, whereas only 26% of coaches surveyed in Slovenia know of such education possibility.

Currently the research group is developing material for coaches and parents with advice on how to build more inclusive sport clubs.
