ICSSPE President Uri Schaefer Turned 75

On 15th January 2025 ICSSPE President Dr Uri Schaefer turned 75.
Uri Schaefer was appointed to lead ICSSPE by the late President Professor Margaret Talbot in 2014 and elected ICSSPE President at the 2016 General Assembly, and re-elected for a second term in 2021.
From 2008 until 2016, Uri Schaefer was the Director of the Sport Administration within the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sport. Prior to this commitment, he served as the CEO of Israel’s National Center for Elite Sport, the famous Wingate Institute, for 10 years.
He is the founding President of the International Council for Coaching Excellence. After presiding over this organisation from inseption until 2005, he then became a board member thereafter.
With his experience at the interface of research, education and policy development, Uri Schaefer is a welcomed guest speaker at many international events. He is a strong promoter of low-threshold and equal access to physical activity for all members of society, and was awarded with several prestigious national and international awards, including - the 1992 Sport Science award of the IOC President, the Appreciation Award of the National Olympic Committee of Israel (1998), the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (2016), Doctor Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate), from the National University of Physical Education and Sport in Bucharest, Romania (2022).
According to the statutes, Uri Schaefer’s presidency will end in 2025 but members and partners will always be grateful for the legacy he will be leaving behind.
