ICSSPE officially launched its new project "Stronger Together: Creating youth champions to transform communities through grassroots sport" co-funded and endorsed by the UNESCO Participation Programme. This online meeting brought together young leaders, mentors, and project partners from Namibia, Zambia and South Africa, including representatives from the University of the Western Cape, marking the beginning of a year-long journey focused on using grassroots sport to drive positive community transformation.
Participants were introduced to the project goals, timeline, and mentoring framework, and engaged in discussions on the current challenges facing grassroots sport in their local contexts. The session also offered space for the diverse group of young academics and practitioners to connect and begin shaping a shared vision for leadership and community impact through sport.
Building on the outcomes of the previous Participation Programme project and the "Let’s Get Moving Together" toolkit, this new initiative will explore deeper strategies for social change, inclusion, and resilience through sport. The insights and experiences gained throughout the project will contribute to an enhanced version of the toolkit, further strengthening its relevance for grassroots sport leaders worldwide.
