The Institute of European Sport Development and Leisure Studies of the German Sports University Cologne (GSU) and ICSSPE have agreed to increase learning opportunities for young participants in sport for development.

The Further Education Programme “Sport-for-Development” at the German Sports University which has been newly designed, consists of three phases that will enable participants to deliver sport-related development programmes in social problem and crisis areas, and to be sufficiently qualified for the international labour market.

The first phase of the programme will be the one-week seminar “Community and Crisis - Inclusive Development through Sport”, which is organised by ICSSPE, in Rheinsberg, Germany.  Participants will benefit from important insights into the usage of sport for inclusive community building, crisis management and social development. Through both theoretical and practical learning sessions, participants will learn how to implement Sport-for-Development programmes.

The 3-day seminar “Theory, Policy Framework and M&E in the field of Sport and Development” held at the GSU in Cologne (the second phase) contains the following topics: introduction to theories of international development and cooperation, analysis of relevant stakeholders in the area of sport-for-development (UN, EU, nat. government), and core methods/aspects of monitoring and evaluation (quantitative/qualitative approaches) in the framework of Sport for Development programmes.

During an internship (with a minimum of 300 hours) in a national or international governmental or non-governmental organisation (the third phase), the participants will have the opportunity to explore and gain experience in the professional field.

Kennesaw State University, USA, and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, are the other academic institutions that offer their students credits for a successful participation in the ICSSPE seminar.

Interested persons can still sign up for Phase 1 of the seminar. Please check the ICSSPE website www.icsspe.org or contact Katrin Koenen at kkoenenaticsspe.org for further information.
