The German Sport Science Organisation Turns 40

On 6th October, 2016 the German Sport Science Society – dvs – celebrated its fortieth anniversairy in Berlin, Germany.

 

In the presence of sport scientists from a diverse range of universities, institutes and associations, Kuno Hottenrott, DVS President welcomed members and guests, among these Hans-Georg Engelke, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, ICSSPE President Uri Schafer, as well as DOSB Vice President and ICSSPE Honorary President Gudrun Doll-Tepper.

 

Guest speakers outlined the importance of research to support athletes and their performance, but also to strengthen the role of physical education in education. Reference was made to the relationship between physical activity and cognitive functioning as well as to the need for further investments in inclusive sport programmes.

 

To increase international visibility the German Journal of Sports Science which is a co-production of the DVS, the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the Federal Institute of Sport Science, will from now on be published in English.

 

ICSSPE President Uri Schaefer and DVS President Uri Schaefer have decided to meet in the near future in order to intensify their cooperation.
