First-ever Sport Package Unveiled

Sports Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou unveiled a communication which sets out the European Union`s (EU) first-ever sports programme and hopes to have the first collection of policies released in 2014.

 

The communication, entitled Developing the European Dimension in Sport, proposes that the EU

  • Signs up to the Anti-Doping Convention of the Council of Europe;
  • Develops and implements security arrangements and safety requirements for international sport events;
  • Continues to make progress towards introducing national targets based on the EU`s Physical Activity Guidelines;
  • Develops standards for access to sport events and venues for people with a disability; and
  • Promotes women`s access to leadership positions in sport.

 

It also calls on sport associations to establish mechanisms for the collective selling of media rights to ensure adequate redistribution of revenue.
