11/03/2011 07:40

Organisers of the International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport 2012 are calling for open parallel sessions.

Greg Whyte, Chair of the Scientific Committee and former Olympian in modern pentathlon is seeking for presenters from different disciplines, countries and cultures. He sees this diversity as well as the involvement of athletes in the scientific programme as a fundamental part of the Convention. The composition of the programme will allow "a truly integrated interrogation of contemporary topics" and will "promote the importance of knowledge exchange from science to application and, importantly, from application to science."

Following the theme Inspiring a Learning Legacy, members of the scientific committee have developed various sub-themes for which they request the submission of abstracts.

  • Athlete Welfare;
  • Eligibility and Inclusion;
  • Elite Performance;
  • Sports Medicine and Prevention of Injuries;
  • Governance and Policy;
  • International Sports Development and Management;
  • Major Sporting Events;
  • Pedagogy;
  • Physical Activity and Health.

Deadline for submission is 1 May, 2011.

Whyte describes ICSEMIS as the "largest sport science and medicine conference in the world with a unique and exciting programme" and says that, by taking place from 19-24 July, 2012, in Glasgow, Scotland, "the timing of the event, just days before the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, makes it an incredibly prestigious and challenging project to be involved with."
