The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) launched the Agitos Foundation on Tuesday September 4th, 2012, followed by a fundraising gala held at the Grosvener House Hotel in downtown London.

The foundation will provide leadership in the development and support of sport and physical activity for people with limited abilities and aims to create more inclusive societies. These goals will be reached through awareness campaigns, education, advocacy, research, and sport development.

The IPC reports that approximately 15% of the world's population has at least one impairment and many of those individuals live in poverty. The foundation embodies the philosophy of the Paralympic Games and will fulfill the strategic education and development goals of the IPC in support of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
