The current issue of the African Journal for Physical, Health Education, Recreation and Dance features sections on health and physical activity such as the ´Beneficial effect of physical activity on linear growth rate of adolescents in a South African shanty town´, and ´Eating disorders among student-athletes´. The exercise physiology section features the ´Effect of trunk inclination on isometric extensor and flexor torque of healthy adult males´ and ´Prevalence, severity and mechanism of acute injuries in elite male African youth soccer players´. The journal also explores sexuality topics such as ´Assessing students unwanted early sexual experiences´,  as well as sections concerning sport science, sport psychology and recreation such as ´Recreation intervention with adolescent offenders: Prospects and challenges in the South African context´.

The African Journal for Physical, Health Education, Recreation and Dance is a peer-reviewed journal that aims to provide a medium for experts in health and physical education, dance and sport to publish studies and to further the exchange of knowledge in African based research.

It also provides insight, to international and national researchers, into the unique cultural practices and disciplines from various parts of the African continent. The knowledge and culture of indigenous African health practices using extracts of plants and herbs is still apparent and has formed some of the basis of current western medicine.

The journal is published quarterly in March, June, September and December with periodic supplements.

The journal can be found online via www.ajol.info.
