The 2nd Announcement for the international conference Sport as a Mediator between Cultures has now been released.

Practitioners, scientists, representatives of funding organisations and other interested parties in the field are invited to evaluate past projects on sport for development and peace as well as developments over the past years in research, training and structures in this working field, to jointly establish ways of further conducing intercultural understanding and co-operation through sport and to identify possible alliances with other areas of society.

A diversified programme, including presentations, project reports, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops, will provide profound knowledge on developing, monitoring and evaluating sport initiatives considering specific cultural and regional needs. Field trips to sport for development, community building and peace projects in the Israeli and Palestinian region will give participants not only scientific but also practical insight into sport´s role for social development, peace-building and reconciliation.

A recent example of sport´s capacity to contribute to peace-building and developmental issues has been shown by the National Olympic Committees of Palestine and Israel, which expressed their willingness to develop co-operation despite current political differences between their countries.
