The International Olympic Academy (IOA) invites applications from early-career researchers and postgraduate students passionate about the Olympic Movement, for its 33rd International Seminar on Olympic Studies for Postgraduate Students, taking place from 3 to 25 July 2026 at the historic IOA premises in Ancient Olympia, Greece.
This distinguished seminar brings together a multicultural cohort of MA and PhD students from around the world who are committed to deepening their understanding of Olympic and sport studies and advancing research in related fields. At the core of the programme is an interdisciplinary exploration of the Olympic ethos, offering participants a rich blend of academic discourse, cultural immersion, and networking.
Under the theme “The Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement: Past, Present and Future – An Analysis from the Historical, Philosophical and Social Perspectives”, participants will engage in:
- Lectures and discussions led by esteemed experts and supervising professors.
- Field-based educational activities centered on the heritage of the Olympic Movement.
- Cross-cultural exchange with postgraduate peers from diverse backgrounds.
The seminar aims to build a global network of young scholars who will contribute as future leaders in National Olympic Academies (NOAs), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), universities, Olympic Studies Centres, and beyond.
Participating candidates must:
- Be nominated by their NOA, NOC, university, or Olympic Studies Centre.
- Submit a Plan of Initiatives outlining how they will share their seminar experience and contribute to Olympic education and awareness upon their return.
- Prepare and submit an academic paper (2,500–3,000 words) on their research topic by 15 June 2026, which will be presented during the seminar and published in a special IOA volume.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English (seminar language).
Accepted participants are encouraged to promote their experience through presentations, collaborative projects with their home institutions, and social media channels.
The online registration platform is open now. Prospective participants must complete their applications by 30 April 2026. Early planning and coordination with nominating institutions is strongly recommended.
