Sports for All Gaining Momentum in India

ICSSPE member The National Association of Physical Education and Sports has been implementing several actions to promote Sport for All on their campus in Amravati. "India has gained momentum in the Sports for All field and activities on our campus are hectic", says Dr. Suresh Harihar Deshpande, Director of the Collegiate Section at H.V.P. Mandal in Amravati (India). You will find below some of the activities that have taken place at the Amravati campus.
1. Children Sports Festival
The Children Sports Festival was held on 15 and 16 December 2013 at Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal campus in Amravati (Premier Institute of Physical Education). About 2000 children participated in various sporting events and enjoyed a sense of participation and achievement.
2. Tribal Rally and Cultural Fest
India intends to preserve the tribal and aborigine culture with varied folk dances and traditional sports. The rally of tribal youths was held at Amravati on 2 January 2014 with a record participation of about 5000 children (boys and girls) in their traditional colorful attire and ornaments. Several groups presented folk dances accompanied with traditional music.
3. Sports for children with different abilities
A special State level sports festival for children with different abilities was held on 3 to 5 January 2014 at Amravati. About 3000 children from different age-groups including blind, deaf, with one or several disabilities participated from 36 districts of Maharashtra State. Events included running, shot put, long jump, javelin throw in track & field, swimming and chess.
4. Traditional Sports Festival
The Traditional Sports Festival was held at HVP Mandal Amravati from 8 to 10 January 2014. Hundreds of students and youth deprived of high level sports competitions participated in the event.
5. Fireworks of Gymnastics
It was for the first time that exercises on the traditional Indian Pole - called “Mallakhamb” - were displayed at the "Fireworks of Gymnastics", a festival presented throughout Germany along with the display of such gymnastics groups of different countries. The programme lasted for a period of month (22 December 2013 to 23 January 2014. Sports experts in the skills of Malkhamb were invited from HVP Mandal Amravati.
