SportAccord Award Recipients Announced

The Spirit of Sport Awards were presented during the SportAccord Convention held in Quebec City, Canada from May 20-25th, 2012. The awards were established to recognise outstanding contributions in sport within the framework of positive social impact.
The winners were Ms. Sylvana Mestre recipient of the individual award for her co-founding and work with ´Play and Train´ an organisation that aids families and people with limited abilities learn and participate in sport activities.
The winning project award recipient was the Fédération Internationale des Échecs´s (FIDE) Chess Brings Freedom project based in Brazil, targeting the intellectual development of at risk youth through social inclusion, rehabilitation of prison inmates, and the introduction of sport and activities as a means to rehabilitate chemically addicted people.
The second place laureate was awarded to the International Table Tennis Federation´s (ITTF) women development programme for pursuing equality and fairness in women´s opportunities, learning and access to leadership roles, sport participation as officials and coaches.
The third award was received by ICSSPE member CISM, the International Military Sports Council for the organisation of the 5th Military World Games as –The Peace Games.
