The 17th International Symposium for Olympic and Paralympic Research, hosted by the International Centre for Olympic Studies (ICOS) at Western University, in partnership with Università degli Studi della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Italy, will take from February 18-20, 2026.
This year’s theme, “The Games in a Digital World: Human Flourishing, Olympic Values and Sustainability in the Age of AI,” invites reflection on how emerging technologies are reshaping sport, identity, ethics, and the future of Olympic and Paralympic movements.
Participants are encouraged to explore how artificial intelligence and digital platforms influence:
- Athlete experience and well-being
- Fan engagement and media representation
- Governance and ethics in sport
- Inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability
The symposium is open to academics and practitioners across a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to:
- History
- Sociology
- Anthropology
- Philosophy
- Political Science
- Cultural Studies
- Sport Management
Proposals for thematic sessions are also welcome, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and dialogue.
