ICSSPE President Dr. Uri Schaefer Receives UNEFS Doctor Honoris Causa

ICSSPE President Uri Schaefer, PhD, has been awarded an honorary doctor degree by the UNEFS Universitatea Nationala de Educatie Fizica si Sport Bucuresti (UNEFS), the National University of Physical Education and Sports Bucharest, Romania.

 

 

The title of Doctor Honoris Causa was awarded to Uri Schaefer by the UNEFS University Senate for his "huge contributions in developing the Physical Education and Sport domain around the world." The ceremony was part of UNEFS' International Congress of Education, Health and Human Movement (ICEHHM) where Uri Schaefer represented ICSSPE, giving the keynote address.  

 

 

"The email I received from UNEFS about the Senate's decision to award me the title of Doctor Honoris Causa made me very excited and happy. The message reached me just as I was preparing my keynote address, which I was invited to as part of UNEFS’ International Congress of Education, Health and Human Movement,” Uri Schaefer recalled the moment he received the exciting news.

 

 

“In all modesty, I received recognition and appreciation for my activities and contribution to physical activity and sports in my home country Israel, but I never expected to receive such a significant international recognition of honour for my global activities during my tenure as President of ICSSPE. I am very thankful, excited, and happy that I was found worthy of receiving the degree on behalf of UNEFS at the time the decision was made by the Rector of the University, his vice rector and all the members of the University Senate,” Uri Schaefer added, expressing his gratitude. 

 

 

“I would like to take this opportunity and sincerely thank our member University for the decision and the wonderful ceremony in which I was awarded the degree. The memories of this unforgettable day and impressive event will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

 

 

The ceremony took place on 17 June 2022 on the occasion of the 12th ICEHHM edition, titled Human Movement: New Paradigms in a Changing World - Hybrid Bucharest (15-18 June 2022). 

 

 

Dr. Uri Schaefer’s ICEHHM keynote address was prepared in collaboration with ICSSPE’s research manager Pascal Camara and titled The critical role of teachers and coaches in promoting physical activity - What does latest research tell us?
