The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) has announced that it will host the Conference on Sport and Society in Transnational Contexts between 5 and 6 June 2015 in Zurich, Switzerland.
The conference takes into account the increasing global dynamics which shape modern sport and will bring together academics from diverse disciplines in order to gain understanding of the international dimensions of the modern sporting world.
In preparation for the conference, ETH Zürich has issued a call for abstracts. Papers are encouraged to be written on the following themes:
- The functions of nation-states and other establishments in initiating and mediating sport codes.
- New models of analyzing circulation and appropriation of particular sports.
- The agency of intermediary individuals within or outside institutions that promote transnational sport.
- The processes of recasting sporting discourses through visual and textual constructions.
- Transformation of sport through transactions between dispensers and absorbers.
- Simultaneous multiple production of modern sport across diverse sites, and subsequent configuration of their contemporary forms.
