The International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS) being held this year in Glasgow, Scotland from July 19-24th, 2012 is quickly approaching. It has been revealed that HRH Princess Anne will officially open next month´s event.

 

The Convention is organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Paralympic Committee (IPC), International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) and International Organisation of Sports Medicine (FIMS).

 

Prior to the ICSEMIS convention, ICSSPE will host annual board meetings from July 16th to 19th. Members of the President´s Committee will meet on July 16th, the Editorial Board and ICSP respectively on July 17th, the Executive Board and Associations` Board on July 18th, followed by the General Assembly on July 19th.

 

Every week leading up to the convention ICSEMIS offers ´science on offer´, a preview of upcoming research that will be presented and discussed at ICSEMIS.

 

The Olympic Lottery Distributor has provided 44 scholars with funding to attend this years convention. Students have also been offered a submission deadline extension and can submit poster presentation abstracts until Friday June 15th, 2012.

 

At this year´s event, ICSEMIS is expecting 2,500 delegates from multiple professional and academic disciplines in sport, physical education, sports medicine, and exercise.

 

This year´s convention focuses on nine themes: athlete welfare and support, elite sport performance issues, eligibility and inclusion in sport at all levels, governance and policy of sport from local to international levels, international sports development and management in different cultures, aspects surrounding major sporting events, pedagogy across the lifespan, the promotion of physical activity and health, sport medicine and injury prevention and sport within the spiritual and religious realms.
