13/10/2014 11:20

Upon invitation of UNESCO and hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, Uruguay, the second regional MINEPS V follow-up meeting took place 6-7 October in Uruguay. Representatives from almost twenty countries from Latin America and the Caribbean, among these several Ministers, continued with the development of a questionnaire for a regional survey that will provide information about participation in physical activity, physical education and sport for all age groups. The objective of this regional endeavour is to receive comparable data that offer valid indicators for policy makers to develop national and local policies.

As member of the Permanent Consultative Council of CIGEPS, ICSSPE participated in the meeting which followed a first meeting in Bogota, Columbia, in September 2013. The representative of Mexico invited the participants to join in a 3rd meeting to be held in September 2015 in Mexico. UNESCO representatives hope that the regional activities will encourage other UNESCO region to take further measures to implement the Declaration of Berlin, adopted by the participants of MINEPS V in May 2013.
