Move and Improve?

Physical Activity and Academic Performance

The International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education is organising a symposium called “Move and Improve? - Physical Activity and Academic Performance” between the 25th and the 27th September in Berlin, Germany.

The event brings together a selection of experts from science, education, business and politics to discuss aspects of neuroscientific research that help enhancing the value of physical activity in educational and academic contexts. Questions of how to design programmes remain unanswered and require more research and multi-sectoral collaboration. In the character of a workshop, the participants will develop a research agenda for the upcoming years and define potential implementation schemes.

A further output will be the production of an edited book to be published by ICSSPE and Routledge as part of Perspectives: The Multidisciplinary Series of Physical Education and Sport Science. The book will contain scientific contributions as well as practice-oriented background information and recommendations for policy-makers, practitioners, teachers and coaches.

On Friday, 26 September the symposium will open its doors to the public. Based on a session in which the experts provide insights into associations between physical activity, fitness and academic performance, the programme will continue with a panel discussion that explores new perspectives for practice-oriented models and innovations.

Speakers include Prof. Dr. Schneider (German Sport University Cologne), Dr. Sabine Schäfer (Max Planck Institute for Human Development), Prof. Dr. Romain Meeusen (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), Dr. Amika Singh (VU Amsterdam University) and Prof. Dr. Phillip Tomporowski (University of Georgia).

Capacities are limited and registration is required.

The symposium will be held at the Hotel Scandic Potsdamer Platz, Berlin.
