ICSSPE had the pleasure of welcoming a group of graduate students from Kennesaw State University (KSU), USA, to its headquarters in Berlin. The students, enrolled in the Master of Social Work programme, were accompanied by Dr. Alan Kirk, a long-standing ICSSPE collaborator and academic partner.
The visit continued the long tradition of cooperation between ICSSPE and Kennesaw State University. Dr Kirk and KSU have been valued partners in ICSSPE’s seminar series “Communities & Crisis – Inclusive Development through Sport,” which ran from 2007 to 2019 in Rheinsberg, Germany. The seminar provided professionals and students from around the world with practical and theoretical knowledge on how sport can contribute to community resilience, social inclusion, and post-crisis development.
At ICSSPE’s Berlin office, the delegation was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Gudrun Doll-Tepper, ICSSPE’s Honorary President, together with staff members Dr. Pascal Camara (Sport Science Research Manager) and Bárbara Boaventura (Executive & Project Assistant).
During the visit, ICSSPE delivered a presentation introducing the organisation’s history, mission, and structure, as well as its current portfolio of projects and global partnerships. The presentation sparked an engaging discussion on how sport and physical activity intersect with social work, community building, and international development.
The exchange provided an opportunity for the visiting students to gain insight into the role of international sport organisations in advancing inclusion, health, and social wellbeing through physical activity and education.
