Last week, ICSSPE had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the Korean Institute of Sport Science (KISS) to its headquarters in Berlin. The visit was an opportunity to exchange knowledge and expertise on sport policy, education, and community development, further strengthening international cooperation in the field of sport science.
The Korean delegation was represented by Dr. Yongnam Park and Mr. Wan Young Lee, both from the Department of Sport Policy at KISS. They were hosted by Prof. Dr. Gudrun Doll-Tepper, ICSSPE Honorary President, along with Dr. Pascal Camara, ICSSPE’s Sport Science Research Manager, and Bárbara Boaventura, Executive and Project Assistant.
Throughout the visit, discussions focused on ICSSPE’s work in several key areas, including:
- Physical Education and its role in fostering lifelong engagement in sport and physical activity.
- Accessibility to sport and strategies to ensure inclusive opportunities for all members of the community.
- Grassroots Sport, with an emphasis on empowering local initiatives to build sustainable sporting cultures.
The KISS delegation also expressed a particular interest in two of ICSSPE’s projects:
- “Stronger Together: Creating youth champions to transform communities through grassroots sport”, that aims to equip youth with the knowledge, skills, and networks to become effective changemakers in their communities through sport-based interventions. Our young leaders will meet next week in Cape Town, South Africa, for the Final Workshop of the project.
- Promoting Active Cities Through Europe (PACTE+): a three-year Erasmus+ initiative that supports European cities to adopt active-city governance through a multidimensional tool called the Matrix for Change, by piloting interventions in schools, workplaces, mobility, and stakeholder engagement, and by measuring their impact to strengthen advocacy for policies promoting physical activity.
By sharing insights and approaches from these projects, ICSSPE offered practical examples of how international cooperation and applied research can support the development of effective sport policies and programmes.
The visit highlighted ICSSPE’s ongoing commitment to building strong international partnerships and to promoting sport as a driver of education, health, and community development.
