The International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) is pleased to share a closer look at its President, Prof. Dr Annette R. Hofmann. Having served ICSSPE for many years — most recently as Vice-President — Prof. Hofmann brings a wealth of experience, strong international connections, and a clear vision for the organisation’s future.
“It is a great honour to have been elected by our international membership community,” she said. “Looking at ICSSPE’s history and the distinguished individuals who have chaired this organisation, it is humbling to now serve as President. I look forward to contributing my time, energy, and ideas, and to working closely with our new Vice-Presidents and the wider ICSSPE community.”
Prof. Hofmann’s academic career, rooted in sport and culture, sport history, and sport pedagogy, has been built on international collaboration. Her work with organisations such as the International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sport (ISHPES) naturally connected her to ICSSPE, where she quickly developed a deep commitment to its mission.
Looking ahead, she plans to enhance ICSSPE’s global visibility, build stronger partnerships, and engage actively with emerging topics such as digitalisation, artificial intelligence, health, sustainability, and diversity. The upcoming 70th anniversary of ICSSPE in 2028 will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the organisation’s legacy and shape its vision for the decades to come.
Above all, Prof. Hofmann believes that teamwork will be key: “Real progress will depend on the collective efforts of our office, our elected committees, and the many organisations that make up our membership.”
In describing her vision for the organisation, she puts it simply: “An inspiring, dynamic, and reliable organisation that fosters global collaboration and innovation in sport and physical education.”
