The International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) convened its 32nd General Assembly on 20 July 2025 at the German Sport University Cologne, Germany.
As the highest decision-making body of the organisation, the General Assembly brings together ICSSPE’s member organisations every two years to assess past achievements and set priorities for the future. This year’s Assembly welcomed around 50 delegates, jonining us either onsite in Cologne or online, from across the world, including China, Brazil, India, Australia, Kenya, Japan, Azerbaijan and USA. It marked a significant milestone in the organisation’s history with the full election of all members of the Executive Board and Development Committee.
Newly Elected ICSSPE Executive Board:

- Vice-President Executive Board: Prof. Dr. Rares Stanescu - Romania (National University of Physical Education of Sport of Bucharest)
- Vice-President Development Committee: Prof. Maria Beatriz Ferreira - Brazil (International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women - IAPESGW)

The Assembly approved the Executive Director’s report, the Report of the Board of Directors, and the Treasurer’s report, along with the 2025–2026 budget.
Honouring Outgoing President Uri Schaefer
The Assembly also paid tribute to Uri Schaefer, who concluded his presidency after an impactful tenure from 2014 to 2025. Under his leadership, ICSSPE expanded its global partnerships and strengthened its role as a leading advocate for sport science, education, and development. The ICSSPE community expressed its deep gratitude for his unwavering commitment and contributions over the past decade.

ICSSPE thanks the German Sport University Cologne for their outstanding support and generous hospitality in hosting the Assembly and providing an inspiring environment for dialogue, planning, and collaboration.
As ICSSPE embarks on this new chapter, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and the leadership of our newly elected President Prof Dr Annette R. Hoffmann, Executive Board and Development Committee. Their collective expertise, global perspectives, and shared commitment to ICSSPE’s mission will guide the organisation toward continued growth and impact.
We also extend our sincere thanks to all outgoing members of the Executive Board and Development Committee for their invaluable contributions. Their work has laid a strong foundation on which we will continue to build.
