Students are invited to submit essays for the 2012 Coubertin Olympic Awards, which will be jointly presented by the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (CIPC) and the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE), UK.

 

Aiming to promote the application of the Olympic ideals to the world of business, including the business of sport itself, teams of at least two students need to research and write about how the Olympic ideals of fairness, integrity and openness can help businesses balance commercial success with their social responsibilities.

 

Possible topics to explore include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Sports ethics versus business ethics;
  • Codes of conduct in the sports industry in Europe;
  • Sponsorship;
  • Supply chain;
  • Business and society;
  • Speaking up;
  • Sports and public funding;
  • The Olympics and professional sports;
  • Olympic legacies for society and business;
  • Corruption;
  • Media;
  • Sports finance.

 

The deadline for essay submissions is 30 March, 2012. The Awards Ceremony will be held on 25 June, 2012. The best essays will be published by the CIPC and IBE.

 

The awards are under the patronage of HRH Princess Anne of the United Kingdom and have been recognised by the Inspire programme of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
