ICSSPE congratulates the IPC President for receiving the Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur by French President Francois Hollande.

The highest decoration a person can receive in France recognises Sir Philip's work for the Paralympic Movement. The appointment reflects his achievements as President of the International Paralympic Committee and as a member of the International Olympic Committee, and in particular his role in the success of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

ICSSPE President Margaret Talbot said that the appointment “expresses not only the great work by Sir Philip Craven but also the impressive development of the Paralympic Movement as a whole” and she added that “it ties in with ICSSPE’s long-standing engagement in promoting inclusion in and through sport.”

Before becoming President of the IPC, Sir Philip was President of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation. He participated in five Paralympic Games between 1972 and 1988 in swimming and wheelchair basketball.
