Scientific Support for Sport for Development Initiative of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ)

Since the beginning of 2013, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) has been running the sector initiative Sport for Development under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Primary aim of the project is the establishment of Sport for Development as a tool towards reaching development goals. It is set to run through 31 December 2015.

Together with the German Sports University Cologne (DSHS Köln), ICSSPE has been selected to provide scientific support for this project. Specific tasks include monitoring and evaluation (M&E) services, an international actors’ analysis and strategy and policy consultancy. The scientific support for the sectoral project is meant to ensure the successful development and implementation of the planned Sport-for-Development activities.

With its more than 300 members world-wide, ICSSPE features a significant network of players in interdisciplinary research, the governmental and non-governmental sectors, policy, lobbying and other functions. Specifically, ICSSPE has various members active in the Sport-for-Development sector, including researchers, policy makers and other experts. In addition, ICSSPE has already gained extensive experience in the field of Sport for Development through the coordination and implementation of multilateral research projects as well as informational and educational seminars.
