Promotion of Understanding, Conflict Resolution and Peace

Sport as a Mediator between Cultures
11/03/2011 07:20

To be held at Wingate Institute, Israel, from 15-17 September, 2011, the international conference Sport as a Mediator between Cultures will focus on the potential of sport as a tool for understanding between communities of different cultures, for conflict resolution and peace building.

“The concept of Sport for Development has grown tremendously over the past years. It is time to look at the past decade and analyse this development and the relevance of projects that have been conducted in many areas of the world”, says Detlef Dumon, Executive Director of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE).

In this context, ICSSPE, the Ministry of Culture and Sport, Israel, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Germany, and other organising partners invite experts from all continents to review structures and activities in the field of sport and development.

As the event is hosted in Israel, special attention will be given to participants from countries around the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. "We hope", Dumon continues, "that this event will motivate institutions in other countries of the region to host a follow-up conference in the coming year or two.”

Registration for the event will start soon. Updated information on this conference will be published on the ICSSPE website and in the News Magazine.
