In order to strengthen the vision of Green Games, the Munich 2018 Bid Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2018 presented its environmental and sustainability concept during the 9th World Conference on Sport and the Environment.

The concept contains 18 environmental projects including aspects such as climate protection, safeguarding natural resources as well as education for sustainable development, and has been analysed for the report on the Candidate Cities for the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in 2018 which has been revealed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission on 10 May, 2011.

The 9th World Conference on Sport and the Environment at which all three candidate cities for the 2018 Games participated, was held under the leadership of the IOC, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Qatar Olympic Committee from 30 April - 1 May, 2011, in Doha, Qatar.

With the theme Playing for a Greener Future, the conference aimed to discuss current links of the Olympic Movement with environmental issues, to reflect on future challenges and to explore new opportunities for the inclusion of environmental issues into sport.
