Margaret Talbot Memorial Symposium

2016 ICSEMIS in Santos, Brazil
19/07/2016 13:03

One of the stand-out events at the 2016 ICSEMIS will be the Margaret Talbot Memorial Symposium.

Celebrating the life and work of the late Margaret Talbot, this event will foster a meeting of minds at which experts discuss themes of enormous importance for modern sport and society. Margaret Talbot was a lifelong advocate and activist for equity in sport, physical activity and physical education, a visionary and a leader, and this symposium seeks to recognise a life dedicated to ensuring sport and physical activity for everyone.

The session will be moderated by Gudrun Doll-Tepper, Vice President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation and Member of the IOC Women in Sport Commission.

The presenters will speak to the theme topic Girls, Women and Physical Activity: religion, culture, tradition and national policies around the world from their personal background and expertise. The symposium is envisaged as a forum for honest, challenging and forward-looking perspectives on the different ways in which religion, culture, tradition and national policies affect girls’ and women’s experiences, access and enjoyment of sport and physical activity.

Speakers are Gudrun Doll-Tepper, German Olympic Sports Confederation and Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, Chair of the session; Tansin Benn, Visiting Professor, University of Plymouth, UK; Jorid Hovden, Norwegian University of Science and Technology; Claudia Bokel, IOC, Switzerland; Pablo Scharagrodsky, Universidad Nacional de Quilmes, Argentina; as well as Richard Bailey, ICSSPE, Germany.

This symposium is supported by NIKE Inc. in memory of Professor Margaret Talbot, President of ICSSPE and co-author of Designed to Move.
